The Deadliest Local Roads in Northeast Ohio (2023)

(WJW) - More than 800 traffic-related deaths have been reported on local roads in the NortheastOhiobetween 2017 and 2021,according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

More than a third of these deaths occurred incuyahogajsummitcounties

The local freeway with the highest reported fatality rate was St. Clair Avenue inCleveland, which stretches from The Flats to the east end of Euclid and where 17 accidents with 19 fatalities were reported between 2017 and 2021.

Arlington Street followsAkron, which resulted in eight fatal accidents and eight fatalities over that five-year period. It runs from Arlington to just past Interstate 77, where it becomes Arlington Road.

In 2021, the 18-county Northeast Ohio region had its highest number of fatal auto accidents in 15 yearsNHTSAData.

Nationally, Cuyahoga and Franklin counties are among the top 50 counties with the highest number of traffic fatalities between 2016 and 2020.That shows a new federal report. Still, all of northeast Ohio's counties have low road fatality rates relative to their overall population, the report shows.
